Secure your Data Center

Secure your Data Center

Most data centers store strategic data that is essential for the continuous operation of businesses. Today more than ever, it is critical to ensure that all data is protected.

Two aspects must be considered.

People

Since data centers cannot operate without human intervention, whether this is for maintenance or monitoring purposes, it is vital to ensure optimum safety and security for all workers / visitors who need to be on-site or in the data center.

Equipment

As data security is crucial for any data center owner (or for their customers), increased protection of the equipment on which this data is located must be implemented.

LEGRAND ENSURES BOTH GLOBAL AND TARGETED PROTECTION FOR A SAFE BUILDING

The protection requirements necessary to ensure smooth operation of a data center [as well as the safety and security of people working there] are mainly connected with:

Access Control

Making sure to prevent all unauthorized access, to ensure optimum protection of people and data. For the optimum protection of people and property against physical intrusion, it must be possible to control access at different levels (building, room, aisle, rack, etc.). Legrand offers two main product families in order to provide optimum safety and security for people and data:

ACCESS TO THE RACK

For critical situations, it is highly advisable to use a locking system on each enclosure and containment. Legrand enclosures with lockable doors and panels provide the assurance of protection in all circumstances. For example: Legrand rack door locking solutions make data center GDPR compliant by allowing the physical security to be incremented "by design", and the user personal data to be protected "By default", two of the GDPR pillars regarding data security. Raritan SmartLock and Minkels Varicontrol solutions are also standard means to comply with the expectations of PCI DSS, HIPAA, and SOX requirements. Being financial institutions, government, medical or commercial applications, Legrand Rack door locking solutions will facilitate full compliance with a cost effective and easy to deploy data center security option.

Asset Management

Data centers need to be protected against internal environmental events (overheating, fire, electrostatic discharge, water leaks, etc.) and external environmental events (fire, flood, lightning, earthquake, etc.) both by installing detection solutions and by using products which ensure safety and reliability due to the way they operate or the way they have been manufactured.

This protection against internal and external environmental events can be managed at various levels (building, room, aisle, rack, etc.) and via different components/systems:

PROTECTION OF THE DATA CENTER AGAINST ALL ENVIRONMENTAL EVENTS

Data centers need to be protected against internal environmental events (overheating, fire, electrostatic discharge, water leaks, etc.) and external environmental events (fire, flood, lightning, earthquake, etc.) both by installing detection solutions and by using products which ensure safety and reliability due to the way they operate or the way they have been manufactured.

This protection against internal and external environmental events can be managed at various levels (building, room, aisle, rack, etc.) and via different components/systems:

Technical detection

Our environment sensors allow you to maintain proper humidity levels, detect any water leak and secure your cabinets. Raritan’s rack monitoring (SRC) solution for instance helps maintaining cabinet security with USB webcams and contact closure sensors.

Electrical Protection

Electrical protection

Compatible with all Legrand group PDUs, a surge protection module protects equipment against overvoltages.

Preventing Human Error

As for Zero-U PDUs, our outlet locking systems guarantees absolute safety to prevent human error. Also the color of the PDUs can be used for security, making a difference example between A/B feed or making distinction between crucial equipment.

Fire Protection

The EZ-PATH mechanical firestop caulking system provides optimum protection against fire spreading, whatever the load factor of the cables. Because it enables cables to be added or removed without affecting its firestop performance, it is particularly suitable for infrastructures requiring modifications to the electric wiring, and ensures durable, flexible and sealed cable routing in installations.

Fire Suppression

If a water fog or sprinkler fire suppression system is used in the white room in a containment situation, it is necessary to ensure suppression of the fire (in the event of an alarm) via an opening in the roof. Our FM-approved Drop Away Panels ensure the seamless integration of aisle containment solutions with sprinkler or water mist systems. In the case of a fire in the data center, the plastic Drop Away Panels automatically soften and fall down so that they do not form an obstruction when sprinklers are activated. The system is specifically designed for use with sprinkler installations.
